                     17: is a computer version of Avalon Hill's game of fighting sail

                     21: is really two programs in one.  Each player keeps track of his
                     22: own ship plus a

                     24: program is execl'd (by the first player) to keep track of the
                     25: computer's ships.

                     27: The player is given the first available ship in a scenario and the
                     28: computer takes the rest.  Obviously the more ships in your game, the

                     36: Old Square Rigger's were very maneuverable ships capable of intricate
                     37: sailing. Their one main disadvantage was being unable to sail very
                     38: close to the wind. The design of wooden ship allowed only for the
                     39: guns to bear to the left and right sides.  A few guns of small
                     40: aspect (usually 6 or 9 pounders) could point forward, but their
                     41: effect would be small compared to a 68 gun broadside of 24 pounders.

                     57: An interesting phenomenon occurred when a broadside could fire
                     58: down the length of an enemy ship.  The shot tended to bounce along
                     59: the deck and did several times more damage. This phenomenon was called
                     60: a rake. It happened that a stern rake (firing from the stern to the
                     61: bow) occasioned more damage than a bow rake, so that was the most
                     62: desirable.

                     77: Most ships were equipped with Carronades which were very large, close
                     78: range cannons.  The carronades have a range of two in this game and can
                     79: considerably add to your fire-power when they come to bear.
                     80: If the distance to the target ship is greater than 6, the guns
                     81: can only fire at the rigging.
                     82: A ship's guns could fire a variety of ammunition.  For example:

                     84: Range of 10.  Good for hull or rigging hits.

                     94: When a ship has been battered into a hulk (zero hull), it has no 
                     95: choice but to surrender to the firing ship.  This ceremony is called
                     96: \'striking your colours.\'  A struck ship has a chance of exploding or
                     97: sinking after a while.  When a ship surrenders, its point value is
                     98: given to the aggressor. When a ship is captured, twice the point
                     99: value is awarded the victor.

                    101: Normally, ships sailed into battle with greatly shortened sail to
                    102: avoid excessive damage to the precious rigging.  However, in this game
                    103: the player can increase to full sails and move much faster if he wishes.
                    104: But, all rigging hits incurred with full sails set are doubled.
                    105: The direction rose displayed on the sample screen gives the maximum
                    106: speeds possible for a specific ship at all attitudes to the wind.
