1.1     ! root        1: This directory contains software written at UCB to drive Versatec
        !             2: and Benson-Varian electrostatic plotters.
        !             3: The versatec uses 36 inch wide roll paper; the varian uses 11 x 11 inch
        !             4: fanfold paper.
        !             5: Some of the software is proprietary and has not been included,
        !             6: but can be obtained from Versatec.
        !             7: 
        !             8: We have the versatec running as a plotter, a printer (four pages
        !             9: across using the hardware characters), and a typesetter (also
        !            10: running four pages across).
        !            11: The varian does all these things too, but only one page across.
        !            12: 
        !            13: The varian is known as /dev/va0.  The versatec is /dev/vp0.
        !            14: Much of the software is shared, and can be used for either device.
        !            15: Only the daemons are separate (vad and vpd).  But even they are produced
        !            16: from the same source file (vpd.c).
