The procedure \*Mescape(s)\fR produces a string in which Icon
quoted literal escape conventions in \*Ms\fR are replaced by the corresponding
characters.
.SH LIMITATIONS
Octal and hexadecimal literal specifications cannot be abbreviated by
omitting leading zeros.
