However, double\-quotes may be used to prevent separation between arguments. The character `#' at the beginning of a line indicates a comment line. .PP The first item is the macro, a simple string. The second item is the prefix for the corresponding network address. .SH "USER-SPECIFIC MACROS" By default a user-specific macros database is consulted before the system\-wide macros file.
