In ! 19: Canfield, tableau cards may be built on each other downward ! 20: in alternate colors. An entire pile must be moved as a unit ! 21: in building. Top cards of the piles are available ! 22: to be played on foundations, but never into empty spaces. ! 23: .PP ! 24: Spaces must be filled from the stock. The top card of ! 25: the stock also is available to be played on foundations or ! 26: built on tableau piles. After the stock is exhausted, ! 27: tableau spaces may be filled from the talon and the player may ! 28: keep them open until he wishes to use them. ! 29: .PP ! 30: Cards are dealt from the hand to the talon by threes ! 31: and this repeats until there are no more cards in the hand ! 32: or the player quits. To have cards dealt onto the talon the ! 33: player types 'ht' for his move. Foundation base cards are ! 34: also automatically moved to the foundation when they become ! 35: available. ! 36: .PP ! 37: The command 'c' causes ! 38: .I canfield ! 39: to maintain card counting statistics ! 40: on the bottom of the screen. ! 41: When properly used this can greatly increase one's chances of ! 42: winning. ! 43: .PP ! 44: The rules for betting are somewhat less strict than ! 45: those used in the official version of the game. ! 46: The initial deal costs $13. ! 47: You may quit at this point or inspect the game. ! 48: Inspection costs $13 and allows you to make as many ! 49: moves as possible without moving any cards from your hand ! 50: to the talon. ! 51: (The initial deal places three cards on the talon; ! 52: if all these cards are used, ! 53: three more are made available.) ! 54: Finally, if the game seems interesting, ! 55: you must pay the final installment of $26. ! 56: At this point you are ! 57: credited at the rate of $5 for each card on the foundation; ! 58: as the game progresses you are credited with $5 for each ! 59: card that is moved to the foundation. ! 60: Each run through the hand after the first costs $5. ! 61: The card counting feature ! 62: costs $1 for each unknown card that is identified. ! 63: If the information is toggled on, ! 64: you are only charged for cards ! 65: that became visible since it was last turned on. ! 66: Thus the maximum cost of information is $34. ! 67: Playing time is charged at a rate of $1 per minute. ! 68: .PP ! 69: With no arguments, the program ! 70: .I cfscores ! 71: prints out the current status of your canfield account. ! 72: If a user name is specified, ! 73: it prints out the status of their canfield account. ! 74: If the ! 75: .B \-a ! 76: flag is specified, ! 77: it prints out the canfield accounts for all users that have ! 78: played the game since the database was set up. ! 79: .SH FILES ! 80: /usr/games/canfield the game itself ! 81: .br ! 82: /usr/games/cfscores the database printer ! 83: .br ! 84: /usr/games/lib/cfscores the database of scores ! 85: .SH BUGS ! 86: It is impossible to cheat. ! 87: .SH AUTHORS ! 88: Originally written: Steve Levine ! 89: .br ! 90: Further random hacking by: Steve Feldman, Kirk McKusick, ! 91: Mikey Olson, and Eric Allman.
