.TH RTAR 1C "11 December 1985" .UC 4 .SH NAME rtar \- remote tape file archiver .SH SYNOPSIS .B rtar [ key ] [ files ] [remote host name] .SH DESCRIPTION .I Rtar\^ saves and restores local files on/from remote magnetic tape. It is a network version of tar and supports all options in tar except the notion of standard input/output (i.e., "-" after key f). Files retrieved from the tape are transferred to local host where the command is initiated. Files intended to be saved on remote tape are transferred from local host to remote host and then written to the archive mounted on that (remote) host. .br Users can specify a particular archive where the tape is mounted by using the "f" option.
