                     12: exit  is  the  normal method  to  terminate  a program  directly.
                     13: status information  is passed to the  parent process.  By conven-
                     14: tion, an  exit status of zero indicates  success, whereas an exit
                     15: status  greater  than  zero  indicates  failure.  If  the  parent
                     16: process issued a wait call, it is notified of the termination and
                     17: is passed  the least significant  eight bits of  status.  As exit
                     18: never returns, it is always successful.  Unlike the related func-
                     19: tion _exit,  exit does extra  cleanup, such as  flushing buffered
                     20: files and closing open files.
