                     12: The COHERENT  system is a  multiuser operating system;  it allows
                     13: many  users to  use the  system simultaneously.   An asynchronous
                     14: communication port connects  each user to the system, normally by
                     15: a  terminal or  a modem  attached to the  port.  The  system com-
                     16: municates with  the port by means of a  character special file in
                     17: directory /dev, such as /ddeevv/ccoomm33rr or /ddeevv/ccoomm22ll.

                     19: The COHERENT system will not allow a user to log in on a port un-
                     20: til the system creates a  login process for the port.  The enable
                     21: command tells the system to create a login process for each given
                     22: port.  For example, the command

                     36: The command disable  disables a port.  The command ttystat checks
                     37: whether a port is enabled or disabled.
