                     11: The profile is a set of commands that customizes how the COHERENT
                     12: system deals  with an  individual user.   The shell sh  reads the
                     13: file /etc/profile  and executes the commands  therein when a user
                     14: logs in.

                     16: If /etc/passwd  specifies a program in the  login shell slot then
                     17: /etc/profile is  read by /bin/sh and those  lines which begin ex-
                     18: port are recognized  as global environments, and the remainder of
                     19: the line is inserted into the environment.
