#/etc/default/async #This file contains commented-out entries for all multi-port async cards #that have been tested at MWC, along with an explanation of how each #board was set up, and where to get in touch with the manufacturer. #Setups shown below are examples of actual working configurations on one #system; for most boards, there are many possible valid configurations. #There are many differences among the boards. Things to consider in #selecting a serial board: #- Is the board available with 16550A-compatible (FIFO) UART parts? #- Are all common RS-232 circuits available for each port? This # includes TD/RD/DTR/DSR/RTS/CTS/CD/RI. #- Is there a group status register so that individual parts do not have # to be polled when the board issues an interrupt? #- Is there provision in hardware for dealing with limitations of the # edge-triggered interrupt system on the AT bus? SEALEVEL, GTEK, and # Comtrol offer this. #- Can boards be chained on the same interrupt line? #- What sort of cables and connectors are provided with the board? #- Are UART parts socketed? #- Is documentation intelligible and complete? #- Is technical support helpful, and readily available? #The "asy" driver shipped with COHERENT 4.0 allows you to mix several #different board types on the same system, as long as each port has its #own channel number and the total number of channels is no more than 32. #Each board should be configured to occupy a unique interrupt number, #unless you are chaining boards specifically designed to allow sharing of #an interrupt line. #The file begins with uncommented entries for the usual com1-com4, #occupying channels 0-3.
